PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: During this project, EBI mobilized to perform an offline visual isolated phase bus inspection and cryogenic cleaning. During the inspection, EBI’s technicians discovered debris, an accumulation of dust and dirt inside the enclosure and on the insulators, a significant amount of flaking/peeling paint, degradation on the bushing adapters, rust, and excessive electrical grease. EBI performed a thorough cryogenic cleaning inside the enclosure, and hand wiped areas as access allowed. Cryogenic cleaning is the preferred method for the best results as it is environmentally friendly yet removes surface corrosion and contaminates throughout all internal components, including the enclosure and entire length of the conductor and insulators, where many issues hide. EBI also performed fabrication, refurbishment, and in-field silver plating to bring the unit back to optimal condition.
