EBI and Doble: Increasing Bus Duct Reliability in Power Plants

Companies to provide customers with complete turnkey solutions to help extend life of critical electric power plant equipment.

Electrical Builders, Inc. (EBI™) and Doble Engineering Company are pleased to announce a new alliance to provide customers with complete on-line and off-line solutions for isolated phase bus diagnostics and maintenance. EBI is a leader in bus duct maintenance, off-line inspection, repairs, retrofits and new construction. Doble is a leader in diagnostic solutions and consulting services for the energy sector.  Through their new agreement, EBI will be the exclusive provider of EMI Diagnostics SM, Doble’s in-service, non-invasive electromagnetic interference survey, for bus duct reliability assessment for nuclear plants throughout the United States and Canada.

“EBI is committed to helping our customers operate their plants at optimum efficiency, said Jessica Ducharme, EBI Vice President, Sales & Marketing. “By working with Doble we can now provide a complete solution portfolio that combines both on-line and off-line inspection techniques. With the addition of this on-line, non-invasive service, we can help our clients identify issues before the outage, allowing for more efficient outage planning and prioritization of needed repairs. When the outage takes place, time is saved because the initial discovery has already occurred, allowing for more in-depth testing of targeted areas and addressing identified issues with immediacy.  We look forward to offering this service to all our power generation clients.”

“One of the benefits of EMI testing is that we can provide electrical asset maintenance recommendations after the very first test,” said Paul Griffin, Doble Engineering Company’s Vice President, Consulting and Testing Services. “EMI is a proven technology which is a useful and cost-effective way to identify electrical asset issues, including bus duct maintenance, repair or replacement, as well as assets where maintenance is not required.”

Isolated phase bus ducts systems are vital components in power plants that are often overlooked. These bus duct systems are the only critical components within the plant that have no redundancy and no quick replacement solutions. EMI DiagnosticsSM is an invaluable tool to detect and identify electrical and mechanical defects in bus ducts systems, generators, motors, transformers and associated electrical systems – all while the equipment is in-service.
